The 24-hour mountainbike downhill is a highlight in the biking season at Zau[:ber:]g Semmering. For many national and international racers, this event has become a fixture in their race calendars. The race – known for its unique atmosphere – is an exceptional event in the whole world!
On this weekend, the bikers will literally light up the magic mountain while racing down the illuminated trail, like the ski-slopes in the winter time, which was created especially for this event. The audience can enjoy free entrance and will experience a great show with thrilling mountainbike action and engrossing duels. The never ending racing action and the extensive entertaining programme around the race offer fun round the clock.
the participators
The race is already famous within the mountainbike downhill worldcup professionals from all over the world. Topstars like the Aussie Nathan Rennie, Matti Lehikoinen from Finland as well as the freeride superstar Matt Hunter have announced their possible attendance.
The hottest candidate for winning is certainly from Austria. The Styrian Martin Strasser won the title „Hero of Zau[:ber:]g“ in the single trials allready two times with an incognizable endurance achievement.
Martin was riding the 24 hours without a single break, achieved fabulous 159 rounds (despite a flat tire!), completed around 560km in the saddle with a pure downhill time of around 9,5 hours and all that with faster lap times than the bulk of team riders!
His commentary after the 2.24-hours-downhill: “The duel with Pavel during the first hours has totally challenged me and we were fighting hard, after his retirement is was relieved. Afterwards is was riding without pressure and just looked forward to see the finish line. A terrific, challenging track which is 24 hours rideable and a perfect organized event – next year I’m for sure attending again!”
Entertainment programme
DJ’s in the Slope-Inn area and various live-acts in the ZauberBAR guarantee great music that will make the audience party all 24 hours long and with a bit of luck, you may even win a Specialized Big Hit FSR I downhill mountainbike worth € 1700 in the prize lottery.
The 3rd 24-hour-downhill “race the night” powered by Almdudler will start on Saturday, the 15th of August at 12 o’clock midday with a traditional LeMans Start at the summit of the Zau[:ber:]g. This means that the participants will first have to run up the mountain a few meters before getting to their bikes and actually beginning the race. Then, the bikers race down an approx. 3500m long trail that is partly composed of already existing trails. The Zau[:ber:]g cable car guarantees a comfortable ascent to the mountain during the 24-hour race. The participants start in different categories as single, or as a team of two, four or six riders.
This year’s winning heroes at Zau[:ber:]g Semmering will be declared on Sunday at 12 o’clock midday after the race is over and all participants will have travelled a distance of approx. 50 000km.
